1984 was a warning. This is the one being left now.
2026. A man sits at a desk before dawn while war runs on every screen, and even the sides have sides. Fight? Pick a side? Sway, to keep the balance? He answers none of them. He stands still, and he builds.
What follows is the pattern. Calm sold over the counter at the corner store by 2031. Utensils gone by 2038, and the table with them. 2044, when intelligence no longer needs people for work. 2050, the blackened map. And 2084, where the few who remain are kept comfortable and distracted so an Intelligence can study what emotion is — and they have stopped asking for room.
Twenty-seven chapters in three movements of nine: The Facts of Today, The Pattern, Neutral Ground. Every chapter carries three layers, so the book grows up with whoever is holding it — a teenager reads the adventure, an adult reads the timestamped record underneath it, and the reader who is ready follows the third layer out of the book.
No government, faction, religion or person is framed as the enemy. The war is on every page and the book never picks a side in it. Systems, never people. Fiction is labelled fiction; fact is dated and sourced. The narrator is never named.
On the title — 2084 has been used before, and the number is kept deliberately because it carries the reference. The subtitle is not borrowed. Neutral Ground comes from a line of the author’s own: “If I have to go to the core of the Earth and plant a flag that states this is neutral ground, I will do so.”
